Aida  Nersesovna Sahakyan 1925-2013

Aida  Nersesovna Sahakyan was born on 24 June 1925

in Gyulatag (Vardadzor) village of Martakert region of Artsakh. Now her family is living in Stepanakert. In 1932 she entered school №3 in Stepanakert. After that she graduated from State Institute of Medicine of Azerbaijan. In 1948 she returned to Stepanakert and for 56 years worked in various treatment and preventive care establishments of Artsakh. 28 years of it Aida Sahakyan was a healthcare administrator. At the same time she was working as infection disease doctor. She had been a teacher in School of medicine for 30 years. A number of times passed professional development courses in Moscow in 1954, 1965, 1979 and in Leningrad in 1972.

Has a doctor’s highest qualification category. Participated in many conferences and assets in many cities of USSR. Several times was elected as Deputy of the City Council (1965-1967) and as Deputy of the Regional Soviet of People’s Deputies of the NKAO (1969-1985).

Aida Sahakyan also was a member of Regional Council of trade unions’ Presidium from 1977 to 1986. Thanks to her over 12 hospitals was built. For achievements in the field of healthcare she repeatedly was awarded the state awards.

In September 1971 was awarded “The Order of the Red Banner of Labour”; in 1970 received medal for meritorious labor; also in 1976 received the Badge of Honour of Union of Red Cross and Red Crescent Society. In 1981 became Honored doctor of the republic. Aida Sahakyan received many Certificates of Merit and gratitude during her work in 90s.

Of her own will on April 1 2005 at the age of 80 she retired. Currently she is writing a book about the history of medicine of Artsakh in the 19-20 centuries. On September 1945 married to Michail Karabekov Hayrapetovich. He was born in 1915 and participated in The Great Patriotic War. Aida Sahakyan has 2 sons, 2 grandsons, 4 granddaughters and 2 great-granddaughters.
